An Everts Air Fuel Curtiss Wright C-46F flies past a sun dog shortly after taking off from Kenai Municipal Airport earlier this week. A sun dog, or parhelion, appears when sunlight refracts through ice crystals high in the atmosphere. Sometimes the optical formations are early signs of an approaching storm.
