Posted: Wednesday, November 08, 2000

Among the findings of the Voter News Service exit polling of Alaska voters on the Presidential race in Tuesday's general election:

PARTY AFFILIATION: Nearly all Republicans and about 15 percent of Democrats voted for Bush. About one in 10 Democrats voted for Nader. Roughly one in 10 people who did not identify themselves as a member of the two major parties also voted for Nader.

PARTY PHILOSOPHY: While a majority of those who describe themselves as liberal voted for Gore, about one in five voted for Bush. Among those who describe themselves as moderate, slightly more than half voted Bush.

THE CLINTON FACTOR: About half of Alaskans disapproved of President Clinton's job performance. Those who disapproved of Clinton voted overwhelmingly for Bush. -

SOURCE: Voter News Service survey of 759 voters as they left 15 randomly selected polling places around Alaska. Sampling error margin for each result: plus or minus 5 percentage points for all voters, higher for subgroups.
