Alaska State Park fees waived for Veterans Day

All day-use fees for Alaska State Parks will be waived for Veterans Day weekend as part of a national effort that recognizes the role that parks play in helping individuals cope with tragedy and change.

Day-use fees will be waived Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Alaska's action is being taken in conjunction with the National Park Service and many state park systems around the country to help the nation recover from the events of Sept. 11.

"Alaska's abundance of parklands is a treasured resource in our search for understanding and solace," Alaska State Parks Director Jim Stratton said. "Whether it's getting out on a trail or bike path, or standing atop a mountain or along a river, Alaska's parks and open spaces can help Alaskans cope with the tragic events of Sept. 11."
