The full moon starts to emerge from the shadow of the earth shortly after rising over a spruce forest in Kenai on Saturday night during a total lunar eclipse that was witnessed across much of North America.

Lucky Alaskans only saw half of the show, as the moon was fully eclipsed before it cleared the horizon at about 4:45.
Less than two hours later, the moon was just about out of the shadow and full again.
