Longtime Homer resident Bob Plymire died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2003, from complications of recently diagnosed lung cancer at his home in Homer. He was 62.
Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. today, Nov. 9, at the Homer Elks Lodge BPOE 2127. His ashes will be spread at a later date at several of his favorite places in Alaska.
Mr. Plymire was born Jan. 1, 1941, in Seattle, the first baby born in Seattle in 1941, to Giles C. and Leona M. Plymire. He received a bachelor of science degree from Seattle University in 1964 and obtained the designation of certified public accountant shortly thereafter. He worked for an accounting firm in Seattle and was transferred to Anchorage in 1970. He lived in Anchorage until 1976 when he moved to Homer and acquired Homer Bookkeeping and started his private practice as the first CPA in Homer.
He was an active member of the Homer Elks Lodge, especially enjoying their youth scholarship program. He recently was elected a member of the South Peninsula Hospital Area Board, was a charter member of the SPH Foundation Trustee Board and served as treasurer for both organizations.
"He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish, snowmachine and travel around Alaska and Canada in his camper. He especially enjoyed his annual Kodiak deer hunt, spending time at 'Moose Camp' snowmachining in the Caribou Hills, his cabin at the head of Kachemak Bay and traveling on the Denali and Dempster highways. He recently took up fly tying and enjoyed family gatherings and spending time with his family and friends," his family said.
Mr. Plymire was preceded in death by his parents, Giles C. and Leona M. Plymire.
He is survived by his children and their spouses, Cory Plymire, Jim and Becky Plymire and Dee Dee and Shannon Shoultz; grandchildren, Leah and Evan Plymire and Tiffany Shoultz; longtime partner, Jeanette Dick and her daughter, Catherine Dick; brother, Jim Plymire; sister, Linda Hoblin; and many close friends.
