New ideas on treatment presented

Dr. Russell Manuel will speak at 7 tonight at the Kenai Merit Inn about self-help for cancer. Manual's discussion will provide topics connected to a holistic approach to treatment including nutrition, herbs, and a body-mind-spirit connection.

TOPS garage sale planned

The TOPS AK No. 20 group will hold a garage sale Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 109 Liebrock Circle in Soldotna.

History presentation slated

Kachemak Heritage Land Trust will hold its annual meeting Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the lower level of the Pratt Museum in Homer. Peninsula historian Terri Carter will present the history of the Kenai Peninsula.

Mothers group to meet Monday

A group of mothers and pregnant women will meet and discuss parenting issues 3 p.m. Monday at the Kenai WIC office located in the Seaman building. The group has a strong emphasis on breastfeeding. For more information, call 283-4707.

Hospice to hold workshop

Hospice of the Central Peninsula will hold a community workshop for bereaved individuals at the Soldotna Middle School Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Information and practical suggestions for coping with grief and loss during the upcoming holiday season will be presented by Sue Bezilla, hospice bereavement coordinator.

Community dinner held to raise funds

An all-you-can eat fish fry will be held 6 to 9 tonight at the Sterling Senior Center. The dinner will be held on behalf of Kevin Hall, a Sterling resident recovering from neck surgery. Live music will be performed by local residents.

Contra dance planned

The Kenai River Folk Dancers present a family and community contra dance Nov. 18 from 7 to 10 p.m. at Kalifornsky Beach Elementary School.

Flu shots offered in Nikiski

The Nikiski Senior Center will have flu shots available Nov. 17 from 1 to 3 p.m. Suggested donation is $6. For more information, call 776-7654.

Alaska Junior Miss deadline approaching

The Alaska Junior Miss application deadline is Nov. 30. The competition is scheduled for Jan. 27 at the Soldotna High School auditorium. Those interested in applying should contact Reean Pitts at 262-5919.

Swim lesson registration under way

The Kenai Central High School pool is accepting registration for swim lessons through Monday.

Lessons will begin this month. To register, call the pool at 283-7476 to register.
