Forest Service sets motorized-use restrictions

Posted: Friday, November 10, 2000

Chugach National Forest lands are currently closed to motorized use. The normal opening date is Dec. 1, but depending on snow cover, the opening date may be delayed.

Areas on the Kenai Peninsula that have motorized-use restrictions throughout the winter are:

Manitoba Mountain area near Lower Summit Lake;

The east side of the highway at Turnagain Pass;

Resurrection Pass after Feb. 15;

Johnson Pass Trail on the north end to Center Creek;

West Juneau Road after Feb. 15.

Winter parking is limited at the end of Snug Harbor Road, on the Bean Creek Road in Cooper Landing and at the end of the Resurrection Creek and Palmer Creek roads out of Hope. The Kenai Peninsula Borough has posted parking restrictions on borough roads within the Lost Lake subdivision, which has access to the Lost Lake Trail.

These restrictions are in place for resource protection and the safety of all users. If you have questions, please call a Forest Service office in Seward (224-3374), Girdwood (783-3242) or Anchorage (271-2500).
