Folkestad, Adams join Air Force

Air Force Airmen Gavin K. Folkestad and Taylor M. Adams both recently graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio.

During the six weeks of training, the airmen studied Air Force mission, organization, military customs and courtesies. They performed drill and ceremony marches and received training physical fitness, rifle marksmanship, field exercises and human relations.

Upon completion of basic training, they earned credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force.


Gavin K. Folestad

Folkestad is the son of Kelly Robson of Cortez, Colo., and Jim Folkestad of Homer. He is a 2002 graduate of Alaska Military Youth Academy in Anchorage.

Adams is the son of Jeannie Adams of Soldotna. He is a 2002 graduate of Skyview High School.

Alexander commissioned as second lieutenant

Chad T. Alexander of Homer recently graduated from the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps at the National Advanced Leadership Camp at Fort Lewis in Tacoma, Wash. He was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Army.

While at camp, he was provided with professional training and evaluation in the aspects of camp life, administration and logistical support.

The camp's primary focus is to develop and evaluate each cadet's officer potential.

He is the husband of Jen Alexander and son of Janet M. Nilles of Homer and Joe Coy of Lynnwood.

Alexander is a 1998 graduate of Blanchet High School in Seattle and a 2003 graduate of the University of Washington in Seattle.
