The following list of Soldotna Community Schools classes and activities beginning this week is printed as a reminder to preregistered participants. For more information on a class, call the Community Schools office at 262-6768. Children are not allowed to attend an adult class or wait unattended while a parent attends a class.

Tuesday

Palm Handheld Intermediate with John Pothast, Palm Educational Training Consultant This class will cover some of the more advanced functions of the Palm Handheld computer, including some tricky tips and shortcuts for the basic applications, and will get into some third-party applications. The session is designed for users who have some working knowledge of the Palm. There is a five-person minimum and 30-person maximum for this class. It meets from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays for two weeks in the Skyview High School library. The cost is $10.

Wednesday

Tissue Paper Note Cards with Linda Hibberd Participants will make original note cards and envelopes. No talent is required. All supplies will be provided, but participants are welcome to bring their own tissue for special cards. The class is open to teens and adults with a five-person minimum. It meets from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Soldotna Middle School library. The cost is $15.

Discipline Tips with Children and Teens with Dr. Kathleen Dinius, licensed psychologist Learn easy and effective strategies to improve your kids' behavior, without yelling, spanking or anger. Natural and logical consequences will help your kids mature and be ready to live in the adult world when they are grown. The class is open to adults and meets from 7 to 9 p.m. in Soldotna Middle School room 67. The cost is $15.

Floral Arranging with Bowl Centerpiece with Carroll Knutson, master florist Learn the simple mechanics professional floral designers use to make beautiful bowl arrangements. Bring a 6-inch bowl, a small knife and floral bundle ("market bouquet"). The class is open to adults with an eight-person maximum and 12-person minimum. It meets from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Soldotna Middle School home economics room. The cost is $18, and includes foam and greenery.

Beginning Excel with Brad Hibberd The class will cover the basic Excel operations, including cell formatting, toolbar operations, charts, graphs, formulas and designing spreadsheets. The class is open to adults and meets from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays for two weeks in the Soldotna Middle School Dell lab. The cost is $10.

Planting and Transplanting Trees Learn the correct methods for planting and transplanting trees here on the Kenai Peninsula. Save yourself time and efforts with your landscaping ideas. Optimize your trees' health through proper planting techniques. Find the best tree varieties for here in Southcentral Alaska and replant your spruce beetle killed trees. The class is open to teens and adults and meets from 7 to 9 p.m. in Soldotna Middle School room 25. The cost is $10.

Saturday

Safeway Tour with Mick Galic, manager, and Rob Niederhauser, assistant manager From floral to freight, deli to doughnuts, produce to pot roast, participants will get a look at a big, bustling supermarket operation. The tour is open to all ages with a 30-person maximum. It runs from 10 to 11 a.m., and participants should meet in the floral department of the Soldotna Safeway, 44428 Sterling Highway. There is no fee.

Sunday

Alaska Concealed Carry and the Law with Rod Christopher, Roy Gordon, Chuck Bartolini and Phil Nash of the Peninsula Weapons Academy This class will cover firearm safety, handgun operation, firearms and the law, cleaning and storage of firearms, selecting a handgun for self defense, handgun shooting fundamentals, handgun shooting positions, controlling a violent confrontation and a live-fire qualification course. The class is open to adults 21 and up with a 10-person minimum and 15-person maximum. It will meet from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the conference room at the Kenai River Center on Funny River Road. The cost is $90.
