Wednesday is Veterans Day, and as in years past, local veterans organizations will be putting on this year's services.
This year AMVETS Post No. 4 in Soldotna will host the main event, at the Soldotna Sports Center, starting at 11 a.m.
Each year the three main veterans organizations in the central Kenai Peninsula, AMVETS, American Legion Post No. 20 in Kenai, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 10046 in Soldotna, trade the responsibility of hosting the event, though all three help to facilitate it.
Admission is free, and there'll be seating for up to 300. The hour long ceremony will include readings, addresses, the playing of Taps, a rifle salute, laying of the wreathes, a mock grave, a POW-MIA memorial table and a speech from guest speaker Staff Sgt. Nathaniel Cossano.
Cossano served in Iraq in Sadr City during a particularly tumultuous time from 2004 to 2005.
Afterwards, all three veterans organizations will hold open houses with free food for members of the public.
