Time to quit smoking

Thursday, Nov. 18, is the American Cancer Society's Great American Smoke Out, a day set aside each year to quit tobacco for one day. Peninsula Smokefree Partnership will be at the Central Peninsula Hospital in Soldotna on Friday, Nov. 12, from 7 to 10 a.m., giving out free tobacco quit kits for a loved one or for yourself. Kenai Peninsula College will also have quit kits available Monday thru Friday at the health center.

Visit Kaladi Brothers on Thursday, Nov. 18, between 4 to 6 p.m., and celebrate your success with free coffee and cake and a chance to share your personal story.

Fish and Game AC meets today

The Kenai/Soldotna Fish and Game Advisory Committee meeting scheduled for Tuesday has been postponed until today at 6:30 p.m. at the Cook Inlet Aquaculture Building on Kalifornsky Beach Road to discuss Board of Fisheries proposals.

School budget development group meets

The KPBSD Budget Development Committee meets today at the Kenai Peninsula Borough Administration Building, Assembly Chambers, in Soldotna, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Members of the public may also attend by video at two additional locations: the Seward Middle School Professional Development Room and the Homer Middle School Professional Development Room. All members of the public are welcome.

Birders meet

Keen Eye Birders meet Saturday, Nov. 13, at 2 p.m. at the Cook Inlet Aquaculture Association. On the meeting agenda: Learn about the wonderful opportunities for winter birding on the Kenai Peninsula. Ken Tarbox will share his knowledge, tips and hotspots for winter birding in our area. Future plans for the Keen Eye Birder's are the Christmas Bird Count, a Winter Birding Festival and a progressive dinner, coinciding with the Backyard Bird Count.

Recycling group gathers again

Re-Group meets at 6:30 p.m. today in room 109 at Kenai Peninsula College. Details for the Electronic Recycling Event scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 13, and goals for the year will be discussed. All interested people are invited. For more information call Jan, 262-5098.

Family history explored

Kenai Totem Tracers Genealogical Society meets Wednesday, Nov 10, 2010, at 6 p.m., at the United Methodist Church of the New Covenant, in Kenai. On the agenda: Lenora Pepin will present a program on the migration of the Townsend family across America.
