Fire damages exterior of historic Juneau hotel

JUNEAU (AP) -- A weekend fire at the historic Alaskan Hotel was quickly extinguished after causing about $500 damage.

Capital City Fire and Rescue responded to the downtown landmark at 8:50 p.m. Saturday, said Capt. Lynn Rydell.

The fire was contained to the exterior of the front entrance. The fire originated in the columns in front of the building.

The exact cause remains under investigation. No guests, employees or firefighters were injured.

The hotel bar opened a few hours after the alarm was sounded.
