Kenai library announces raffle winner

Barbara Waters won the grand prize in the Friends of the Library raffle. The Kenai Community Library offers a special thanks to Nora Satathite, Emily DeForest, Kathy Heus, Megan O'Neill, Dottie Sanders, Nedra Evenson and the many other Friends of the Library members who volunteered time to organize and run the annual fund-raiser.

In other library news:

The Totem Tracers Genealogy Society will meet at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 19.

The Writers' Group will meet at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 21 in the library conference room. Anyone interested in writing for fun or profit is welcome to attend.

The Book Club will meet at 7 p.m. Nov. 26 in the library conference room to discuss "Independent People," by Halldor Laxness. Members are asked to bring book titles and reviews to the November and December club meetings. Members will vote for the 2003 reading list during the December meeting.

The Kenai Community Library is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. It will be closed today for Veterans Day.

Ninilchik Native Association closes back roads

The Ninilchik Native Association Inc. warns back woods travelers that Ricarrd Weldon Way 1200, 1100 and 7000 roads are closed due to washouts.

These roads are impassible and off limits to all traffic until further notice. For more information, call Sandy at 567-3603.

Junior Miss contest applications available

Applications are available for the 2003 Alaska Junior Miss Scholarship Program.

The annual competition is part of a nationwide endeavor to reward high school senior girls for their accomplishments. Contestants are evaluated on judges' interview, scholastic achievement, creative and performing arts, fitness and poise.

In addition to cash rewards, the state winner will receive a four-year tuition-only scholarship to the University of Alaska, and the first runner-up will receive a two-year scholarship.

The grand prize winner also will represent the state in the national finals, schedule for June in Mobile, Ala.
