The Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly recognized the outstanding Soldotna High School Cross Country running team under the direction of Head Coach Mark Devenney at their last meeting.
The Assembly unanimously passed a Resolution commending So Hi Junior, Ari Goldstein for becoming the first female runner from the Kenai Peninsula Borough to win the State 4A Championship completing the 5-K course in a time of 18 minutes, 45 seconds. "Ari lead a parade of peninsula finishers to the top ten this year, in her freshman and sophomore, Miss Goldstein placed 10th at the state competitions, but holding a firm belief that she could accomplish her year-long goal and adding to her superb efforts all during the regular season, she did," said Assembly President Pete Sprague. "The performance of Ari Goldstein was superb and a credit to her parents, school, and her community," added Sprague. The State 4A Cross Country Running Championships were held at the Michael Janecek Running Trails in Palmer.
