Sterling Elementary plans family science night

Sterling Elementary School will host a Family Math and Science Night, sponsored by Title I and the PTA, from 6:30 to 8 today in the school gym. There will be activities for parents and students alike to learn about space and math. Sixth-grade teacher and NASA Teacher Educator finalist Allan Miller will present a 15-minute slide show on his trip to Houston and what it takes to be an astronaut; the Challenger Learning Center of Alaska will direct hands-on activities; and computer programs and Web activities will be available to sample.

Experimental aircraft group to meet

The Experimental Aircraft Association will meet at 7 p.m. today at the Kenai Aviation office across the street from the Kenai Fire Department on Willow Street. A yet-to-fly home built aircraft will be on display. The public is invited to attend. For more information, call Nelson Amen at 776-3500.

High schools to sponsor blood drives

The Kenai Central High School National Honor Society will sponsor a blood drive from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday at the school in the green room. Soldotna High School will host a blood drive from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday in the green room at the school.

Participants are asked to eat and drink plenty of fluids before donating. Students wishing to donate must be at least 17, have a parent's permission and have proof of age. Permission slips can be obtained at school offices.

Ventilation class scheduled

The Kenai Peninsula Builders Association and Alaska Building Science Network is sponsoring a building efficiency energy standards ventilation class Wednesday at the PRISM training facility on Marathon Road. The class will provide certification until Jan. 31, 2006. There is no fee.

Participants can earn eight hours of continuing education credits. Credits are available for $80 for nonmembers or free for KPBA members. For more information, call 283-8071 or to register, visit www.absn.com.

Missionary league to hold bazaar

The Lutheran Woman's Missionary League will hold its annual Christmas bazaar from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Star of the North Lutheran Church at 216 N. Forest Drive in Kenai. All proceeds will benefit mission work.
