Posted: Sunday, November 12, 2000

ANCHORAGE (AP) -- A man injured in an avalanche Saturday was lifted to safety off Flattop Mountain in Anchorage by an Alaska Air National Guard helicopter.

Staff Sgt. Jeff Wells said authorities were alerted when the man's personal locater beacon went off shortly after noon.

Wells said the slide partly buried the man and mountain rescue workers dug him out. The man, who was not identified, complained of back pain.

The 210th Rescue Squad hoisted the man out by helicopter and transported him to an Anchorage hospital.
