Pioneers meeting set

Pioneers of Alaska will meet at the Kenai Elks Lodge today at 6 p.m. There will be a potluck at 6 and a meeting at 7.

Public info meeting planned

Bridges Community Resource Network is holding a public information meeting today at 6:30 p.m. at Bridges in Soldotna. The meeting is to inform the public about the formation of the Central Peninsula Health Centers.

The purpose of the centers are to provide primary medical and dental care and preventative services to those who are uninsured, underinsured or otherwise find it difficult to access primary care.

Bridges also is seeking interested people to participate in the development and governance of the centers as members of a nonprofit board of directors. For more information, call 260-2663.

Social Security representatives visit

Social Security Administration staffers will visit the Kenai Peninsula this week to assist individuals with benefits questions or problems. Tuesday they will be in Seward at the city council chambers from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday they will be at Kenai City Hall from noon to 4 p.m. Thursday they will be in Homer at the senior citizens center from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

United Way seeks board members

The Kenai Peninsula United Way has opened nominations for its volunteer-based board of directors. Community members interested in serving as a Peninsula United Way board member are encouraged to contact the United Way office at 283-9500. The deadline is Thursday.

Economic outlook forum slated

The Kenai Peninsula 2001 Economic Outlook Forum will be Friday at 8:30 a.m. and Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at Kenai Peninsula College. Topics for small businesses include Web site development, trends in tourism, tourism development in small communities, adding value to forest resources, manufacturing distributing and marketing, technology education, resources and funding and tourism's sport fishing impact. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. Display space will be available for locally produced goods. Call 283-3335 for free registration.

Church group to sponsor Christmas bazaar

The Lutheran Women's Missionary League and AAL Branch No. 7310A will sponsor a Christmas bazaar Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Star of the North Lutheran Church, 216 N. Forest Drive in Kenai. Hand-crafted items and baked goods will be available. All proceeds benefit mission projects locally, nationally and internationally.

Bereavement class planned

Hospice of the Central Peninsula is offering bereavement training for people interested in becoming a community bereavement volunteer Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Hospice office, 312 Tyee St. in Soldotna. Communication skills for supporting bereaved individuals will be presented by Rita Draheim from Peninsula Mental Health. The program will be facilitated by Sue Bezilla, hospice bereavement coordinator. For more information and to register, call 262-0453.

Long-married couples sought

The Kenai Peninsula Marriage Savers is seeking couples married 50 years or more to be honored at a community Thanksgiving service on Nov. 25. For more information, call 262-6442.

Choir invites community members to sing

The choir at the United Methodist Church of the New Covenant in Kenai is practicing for its Christmas Eve Cantata. Cherie Brewer will direct "Journey of Promises," by Joseph M. Martin. Choir membership is open to the public. Rehearsals are Wednesdays from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the church and some Saturdays. For more information, call Kari Mohn at 283-4258.
