Teachers will present mini-workshops this week in Homer, Seward and Soldotna for parents and students. Sessions begin at 9:30 a.m. with sign-in, followed by a math-science workshop from 10 to 11 a.m., an integrating reading and writing workshop from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., a recipe for writing success workshop from 1:15 to 3:15 p.m., and Alaska studies from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Dave O'Dell will be available for computer questions, and field representative Debbie Mackie will have learning kits available. The workshops will be offered today at the Kenai River Center on Funny River Road in Soldotna and Thursday at the Bidarka Inn in Homer. To sign up, e-mail

IDEA families are invited to join staff for a day at H2Oasis in Anchorage from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 21. IDEA has arranged special prices during the event. To sign up, e-mail by Friday.

The staff has planned regular activities at the IDEA office from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. each Wednesday. Parents must attend with their children. The first Wednesday of each month will be a computer game fun day. The second Wednesday will be a game afternoon. The third Wednesday will be scrap booking. The fourth Wednesday will be story-hour time with a related project.
