Christmas bazaar planned

The Sterling Senior Center will hold a Christmas bazaar from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Saturday. Tables still are available to rent for $25. For more information, call 262-6808 or 262-2943.

CGC test scheduled

The Kenai Kennel Club will hold testing for the Canine Good Citizen program today. The testing is preceded by a six-week class, however, the class is not required for testing.

The test includes 10 situations demonstrating the dog's ability to remain calm and under control in certain situations, such as when being approached by another person or a dog. The program is offered through the American Kennel Club and is open to all dogs.

Registration for testing will start at 6 p.m. Friday, and testing starts at 6:30. The cost is $10 per dog. For more information, call the Kenai Kennel Club at 335-2552.

Auction fund-raiser set

An auction fund-raiser to benefit a nursing education scholarship fund at Kenai Peninsula College will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. today at the Kenai Senior Citizens Center. Hors d'oeuvres, wine, entertainment, auctions and prize giveaways are some of the planned activities. The cost is $35. Lutefisk and lefse dinner set

Christ Lutheran Church will hold its annual lutefisk and lefse dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the church. Donations will be accepted at the door. For more information, call 262-4757.

AMVETS to host dinner fund-raiser

The AMVETS Auxiliary Post No. 4 will host a "Cookbook" dinner fund-raiser from 6 to 8 p.m. at the post in the Red Diamond Center. Dinner will feature recipes from the auxiliary's cookbook. There also will be a drawing for a Ronco Rotisserie. Proceeds will benefit St. Jude's Hospital and the auxiliary. Cookbooks will be on sale. The public is invited. ABATE to hold food drive

Alaskan Bikers Advocating Training and Education will hold its annual Thanksgiving food drive at 9 p.m. Saturday at the Rainbow Bar in Kenai. Music will be provided by the Mabrey Brothers band. The cost is $5 or Thanksgiving food items. Door prizes will be raffled off. Donations will be made into Thanksgiving boxes that will be distributed through area school nurses. The public is invited. Help for commercial fishers available

The USDA-Farm Service Agency recently announced that commercial fishers and crew who fished for salmon in 2003 may be eligible for a cash payment under the Trade Adjustment Assistance Program. Permit holders and crew members must complete the application form and document their share of the pounds of salmon caught by Jan. 13. Applicants also must document that their net fishing income declined between the marketing years 2001 and 2003.

Wallyball league forming

The Kenai Recreation Center is hosting an adult co-ed wallyball league. It will hold a round-robin kick-off tournament Dec. 4. All fees must be paid no later than Nov. 19 to be accepted into the league. For more information, call 283-3855.

Globetrotters to play at KCHS

There will be a team charity basketball game featuring area firefighters, the Harlem Globetrotters and the Harlem Comedy All-Stars at 6 p.m. Nov. 19 at the Kenai Central High School gymnasium.

The proceeds will help fund the Kenai Firefighters' scholarships fund for high school students and training. Tickets are $15 in advance for one adult or two children under 12. Tickets are available by calling 283-3003 or at the ticket office at the Kenai Merit Inn.

Soroptimist selling discount cards

Soroptimist International of the Twin Cities is selling discount cards to benefit its scholarship funds and other charitable activities.

The cards contain discounts for many area businesses and are valid until Aug. 31. The cost is $10.
