Good day to all of my Nikiski neighbors.

  Tate Broussard

Happy Veterans Day to all. Thank you to all of those who put their lives on the line for our freedom.

The Nikiski Senior Center and North Peninsula Recreation Service Area are closed today.

Tammy Berdahl, with NPRSA, informed me that the Strut Your Mutt 2007 Howl'oween Costume Contest was a great success. Twenty dogs and their owners participated in the event at the Nikiski Community Recreation Center on Halloween. She said the event is in the works for next year also.

With the holidays fast approaching, I spoke with Rev. Laura Skiba of the North Star United Methodist Church. She told me Nikiski residents in need, living north of milepost 15.5 can now apply for Thanksgiving boxes through Thursday (Nov. 15).

The boxes, prepared by the Nikiski Neighbors, include a complete holiday dinner to prepare at home.

Food donation boxes also have been placed throughout the community, including the post office and M&M Market, for non-perishable items. Emergency food boxes are distributed from 9 a.m. to noon Thursdays at the North Star United Methodist Church. Boxes are limited to one per family per month.

For more information, call Laura Skiba at 776-8732.

The monthly board meeting for the Nikiski Senior Service Area will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Nikiski Senior Center. The meetings are open to the public.

The monthly board meeting for the Nikiski Senior Citizen's Inc. will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Nikiski Senior Center. Public comment will be from 12:45 to 1 p.m. The annual membership meeting will be held at 1 p.m. Dec. 19.

The scrappy crafters will meet from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Nikiski Senior Center. The format is an open session and participants are asked to bring a project to work on. For more information, call 776-7654.

The next set of swimming lessons will be held Nov. 27 through Dec. 13. Lesson sign-ups will be held at noon Nov. 19 at the Nikiski pool. Lessons run Tuesdays through Thursdays and the cost is $30 for NPRSA residents or $35 for non-residents. For more information, call Nigel at 776-8800.

NPRSA has family gym from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturdays

Congratulations to former Nikiski residents Doug and Danielle Carter on their new daughter, Delana Renae.

Happy birthday wishes to Marilyn Harman on Nov. 15; Jim Harman and Bob Rawls on Nov. 16; and Sophronia Rogers on Nov. 17.

Happy anniversary to Don and Lucille Wilson on Nov. 14.

Keep sending me all the dates and events happening in Nikiski.
