House vote is a great day for Alaska

Posted: Thursday, November 12, 2009

It's a great day for America! Growing up in Alaska, I was taught that neighbors help neighbors. Now I live in a small town that holds improptu fundraising for families in need.

On Saturday this spirit of helping was demonstrated by a bipartisan majority of the House of Representatives, who made history by passing H.R. 3962, the Affordable Health Care for America Act.

While my Alaskan representative chose not to vote in favor of this historic legislation, I want to express my gratitude for those who did. After nearly a century of false starts, this was the first time a chamber of Congress has ever passed comprehensive health insurance reform. What a historic accomplishment.
