Playgroup events set

The Soldotna Community Playground Committee are seeking donations for a silent auction as part of a fundraising event. The proceeds raised will go toward the building of the playground at Soldotna Creek Park.

The group also has available for purchase pickets that can be scribed with names and wooden salmon that can be decorated by families. These items will be placed as part of the playground.

Nikiski pool activities set

The Nikiski pool will hold the following events:

* Water aerobics are held from 7:45 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.

* Semi-private swim classes will held Dec. 1-11. Sign-ups are ongoing.

Youth hunt available; adults needed

The Kenai Peninsula Chapter of Safari Club International (SCI) and 4-H Shooting Sports Program in partnership with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game's Hunter Education Program, is inviting youth ages 10- to 16-years-old to participate in an organized small game hunting experience.

Each weekend from Nov. 1 through the end of December, pairs of adult Hunter Education and 4-H certified mentors will escort pairs of youths for one day of supervised small game hunting. For more information or to sign up, call Larry Lewis at 262-9368.

Adult mentors are needed and parents and guardians may participate. Firearms and instruction, ammunition, transportation and lunch, orange vests, hearing and eye protection will be provided.

If not certified, participating youth will be encouraged to enroll in an upcoming Hunter Education certification class and the 4-H Shooting Sports Program. This program is an opportunity for area youth and adult mentors who are interested in ensuring the future of Alaska's hunting heritage.
