School Veterans Day gathering was great

The Annual K-Beach Elementary School Veterans Day Assembly went very well and our entire community can be so very proud of the members of our Armed Forces that took the time to attend.

Representatives from the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard; and boy, did they ever look great in those military full dress uniforms. Made ya' proud to be an American. Had a first this year; five members of the Coast Guard attended the assembly.

KBE Principal Melissa Linton and Borough Mayor Dave Carey addressed the audience.

Three of our Blue Star MOMS shared stories of their children now serving in the military.

Fifty-two K-Beach students with their family members now serving in the military came forward to receive the traditional Yellow Ribbons.

Assembly was concluded with the singing of, "You're a Grand Ole Flag."

And the best part of all -- when these battle-hardened veterans receive a sincere "Thank You," a hug and a hand-shake from 3rd or 4th graders as the veteran attempts to hide his tears. That's what makes it all worthwhile.

May all of our troops come home alive and well, and soon, very soon. May God be with them and keep them safe!

Steve Wright; Former school head custodian, US Army 82nd Airborne Division
