SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) -- J.P. Dumont scored three goals, the last into an empty net to seal the Buffalo Sabres' 5-3 victory Monday night over the Florida Panthers.

Curtis Brown scored with 1:17 left to snap a 3-3 tie.

Brown, unchecked in front of goalie Roberto Luongo, flipped a wrist shot in for the go-ahead goal. Dumont finished off his hat trick with 16 seconds remaining, finding the empty net from center ice for his seventh goal this season.

The late Buffalo flurry erased a two-goal third period comeback by the Panthers, who pulled even on goals by Pavel Bure and rookie Kristian Huselius.

Bure swatted in his seventh goal with 9:06 left to tie it at 3. Controlling a rebound near the top of the right circle, Bure one-timed a shot past Martin Biron.

Bure's goal came 2:08 after Huselius made it 3-2, tucking a rebound by Biron. Huselius' 10th goal was set up by Viktor Kozlov, who capitalized on a turnover by Richard Smehlik deep in Buffalo's end.

Dumont scored twice in Buffalo's three-goal first period. Miroslav Satan scored Buffalo's other goal.

The Panthers scored on their first shot of the game, 41 seconds in, when Bret Hedican wrapped in a backhander.

But the Sabres dominated the rest of the first period, grabbing a 3-1 lead and outshooting Florida 12-4.

Florida's lead lasted just 1:45.

Alexei Zhitnik took a feed from Tim Connolly and ripped a slap shot from the point, during a power play, that Dumont deflected in at 2:26.

Dumont also scored at 15:36 to give Buffalo a 2-1 lead.

The Sabres padded the lead to 3-1 at 18:42 on Satan's power-play goal, a hard shot from the point that beat Luongo, who was screened.
