Kenai, SoHi top Skyview

The Kenai Central hockey team defeated Skyview 11-1 Friday at the Soldotna Sports Center in the North Star Conference opener for both teams.

Skyview's Paddy Iverson opened the scoring 5 minutes, 38 seconds into the game with an unassisted goal, but after that Kenai scored 11 unanswered goals.

Michael Drobnick paced the Kardinals in points with three goals and two assists, while Trevor Baldwin also added a hat trick, and an assist, for Kenai. Owen Dukowitz also had a four-point night with two goals and two assists.

Also for Kenai, Brad Fusaro had a goal and an assist and Kyle Coleman, Justin Gabriel, Aaron Lampman-Reid and Jed McGlasson each had two assists.

Those notching one point for the Kardinals were Cody Carver and Dustin Moore with goals and C.J. Henley, Carrick Cristiano and Kegan Kiel with assists.

Lauren Baldwin made 11 saves to take the win for Kenai, while Gabe O'Lena made 49 saves for Skyview.

Soldotna 5, Skyview 1

The Stars opened up their North Star Conference schedule with a victory over the Panthers.

Just like Friday, the Panthers played the opposition in the first period tough, with a goal by Paddy Iverson making it 1-1 at the end of the first.

In the end, Soldotna's offense and the goaltending of Micah Perletti were too good. Brian Herring had a goal and two assists, while Matt Vasile added a pair of goals. Soldotna's other goals came from Willie Boyles and Kevin Laurion.
