Gina Kiel and Mary Copple welcome you to the expanded Halcyon Spalon in Kenai.

“Spalon” is a hybrid word created by Halcyon hair stylist, esthetician, and owner Gina Kiel, “A combination of ‘Salon’ and ‘Spa,” says Gina, “When we first opened we didn’t feel we were quite a ‘Spa’, yet we were much more than a ‘Salon,’ so that made us the Halcyon Spalon.” Saturday the Halcyon Spalon marked its 10th anniversary with a grand-reopening celebration of their new expanded facility at the Depot Building in Kenai. “Within our 1000 square foot addition, we added a much larger pedicure/manicure area, a massage/body work room, facial/body waxing room, and dressing room with a shower, another bathroom, and more retail area encasing our handmade jewelry, accessories, and antique dolls. In our original 1,500 sq. ft. space we have added another hair station, giving us 7 in all and have moved our acrylic nail room to the former massage/facial/body room. We also have recently installed a new exhaust system which makes everywhere sweeter during these Halcyon nights,” said Kiel.

Halcyon means untroubled, calm, peaceful, and heavenly, all feelings that aptly describe the newly remodeled Halcyon Spalon. In classical mythology the Halcyon was a bird that laid her eggs at sea during the winter solstice and had the power of charming the troubled seas to calmness, “Our logo was intended to symbolize the plums of the halcyon bird feathers encircling our name where you’ll always find a variety of services with the power to calm and give our customers a warm, relaxing experience. From our gourmet Kaladi coffee, high speed wireless internet and full spectrum lighting, to our pampering spa services and selection of one-of-a-kind hand made jewelry, everything in our expanded service menu has been designed with peace and tranquility in mind. Additionally, I believe we have one of the largest professional retail selections on the Peninsula. Our mainstream lines include Matrix, Paul Mitchell, Redken, Nioxin, Biolage, Peter Hantz, Malibu, Hot Tools, Tri, OPI, Beadhead and Eminence, If we don’t have what you’re looking for most likely we can order it,” says Gina.

The Halcyon Spalon has been serving the Peninsula since 1997 and Gina herself has over 23 years of professional experience and is also a licensed instructor for hairstylists and estheticians, “I believe very strongly in advanced education and have traveled outside to several International training sessions. The rest of my staff has taken advanced training classes with International trainers locally and statewide,” added Gina. The Halcyon staff includes hairstylists Dawn Murray, Rose Carew, Kaci Schlegel, Chelsea Dietrich, and Somer Roney, nail technicians Sherise Jackson and Jessica Stewart, and massage therapist Dana Jenkins. The Halcyon receptionists are Mary Copple, Dana Jenkins, Taylor Cochran, and Callie Martin.

The Halcyon grand re-opening and 10th anniversary celebration will continue through November 17th and according to Kiel there will be daily drawings of services and retail items and anyone stopping may enter to win. Then on Saturday the 17th there will be a drawing for 2 separate Spalon packages valued at over $400 each. “We will be serving light refreshments through the week and hors d’ oeuvres and drinks on Saturday. We’d be honored to have you as our guest.” For more information or for an appointment call the Halcyon Spalon at 283-CALM (2256) or stop by the Depot Building next to Arby’s in Kenai.
