Homer grapplers take down Ketchikan

The Mariners wrestling team defeated the visiting Kings, 43-36, in a dual meet on Thursday at Homer High School.

For Homer, Eli Garvey (103) claimed a 12-4 major decision over Ian Rud; Travis Catron (135) pinned Ketchikan's Dylan Christiansen in 4:57; Ben Daigle (140) pinned Devin Kleinschmidt in 3:21; Robby Brymer (145) decisioned Ketchikan's Ryan John, 4-1; Eric Weinfurter (171) pinned John Smith in five minutes; and Larry Croft (215) pinned Ketchikan's Tyler Franklin in 1:30.

Homer's DJ Marsengill (119), Brittany Wyatt (125), Alex Hediger (130), Logan Patrick (152), Mitch Wyatt (160) and David Jolly (189) were all pinned.

Nikiski falls to Monroe

Visiting Monroe Catholic captured a 9-7 win over the Bulldogs in Greatland Conference hockey action Thursday night at the ConocoPhillips Multipurpose Facility in Kenai.

Jordan Harrison, Beau Calderwood and Zach Alkire all scored twice for Nikiski, while Tyler Bethune netted the other. The Bulldogs owned a 5-3 edge after the second period before being outscored 6-2 in the third.
