Nikiski takes 4th at ACS

The Nikiski wrestling team put three wrestlers in the finals in taking fourth place on Saturday at the Anchorage Christian Schools Wrestling Invitational.

The huge tournament invites all the small schools in the state and is seen as a good predictor of the state tournament.

Bethel won with 238.5 points, while Dillingham was second with 157. Nikiski had 153.

The Bulldogs', and the peninsula's, lone title came from Nikiski's Lincoln Johnson at 171. Nathan Stangel (130) and Kaden Spurgeon (145) both lost in the finals for the Bulldogs.

Also from the peninsula, Zenon Martushev of Voznesenka lost in the finals at 160.

Seward drops 3rd-place match

The Seward volleyball team dropped the third-place match at the Class 3A state volleyball tournament Saturday at Dimond High School.

The Seahawks fell to Dillingham 19-25, 25-14, 25-18 and 25-18. On Friday, Seward had fallen to Mt. Edgecumbe in the semis 25-18, 25-21 and 28-26.
