The Alaska Department of Fish and Game issued emergency orders to close registration hunts for mountain goats in areas RG336 and RG344 in Game Management Unit 7, and area RG365 in Unit 15C. The quotas for hunts in these areas have been met.
The emergency orders went into effect Thursday at 11:59 p.m.
Mountain goat hunting still is open by registration permit in areas where quotas have not been met. That includes four areas on the Kenai Peninsula, including two open exclusively to qualified bow hunters. These hunts will remain open until Nov. 30 unless quotas are met earlier.
All hunters with registration permits are reminded to return their harvest reports even if they were unsuccessful or did not hunt. All harvest reports are required to be sent in within 15 days of the close of the season.
