Domestic violence support group to meet

The Women's Resource and Crisis Center will hold a domestic violence support group meeting from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. today. The session costs $5, but scholarships are available. For more information, call 283-9479 or 283-2069.

Center to hold ice challenge dance

The Kenai Teen Center is holding a Peninsula Ice Challenge dance from 8:30 to 11:30 p.m. today. Admission is $4 or $3 with a Peninsula Ice Challenge pass. All area high school students are invited to attend. DJ service is by Ian.

A harvest dance also is planned from 7 to 10 p.m. Nov. 23. Admission is $2 with two cans of food, or $4 at the door. All area seventh- and eighth-grade students are invited to attend. For more information, call 283-3855 or stop by the teen center.

Snaring seminar to be offered

There will be a snaring seminar sponsored by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Alaska Department of Fish and Game from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge headquarters. Participants are advised to dress for outside weather. Local trappers will demonstrate various snaring methods.

Trappers who only use snares that have been modified to allow "breakaway" for larger, nontarget species of animals will be required to check snares once every seven days instead of every four days after attending this seminar. This snaring seminar is not the trapper orientation class needed to obtain a permit to trap on the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge. For additional information, call 262-7021.

Two pregnancy classes offered

For Mother and Child Midwifery will sponsor two pregnancy classes. The "Essential Oils for Women" class will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, and "Birth Preparation" will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 23. The classes are at 149 E. Swim team to begin tryouts

The Peninsula Piranhas Swim Team will begin tryouts at 5 p.m. Monday at Kenai Central High School. Those interested can register at that time. Call the pool for more information, at 283-7476.

Advisory council to hold meetings

Soroptimists to begin fund-raiser

Soroptimist of the Twin Cities has begun its Sees Candy fund-raiser. Members are taking orders for Christmas. To place orders, contact Lyn Hodel at 262-9253 or a Soroptimist member. The deadline is Dec. 2.

Residents warned about snow hazards

The Kenai Peninsula Borough reminds residents that no person may push or otherwise deposit snow or ice onto a roadway in a manner or in quantities which may constitute a hazard to snow removal equipment or other traffic. Parents are asked to inform children of the danger of playing in snow piles and berms near roadways. Operators of heavy equipment used in snow removal may have difficulty seeing children.
