Two Bulldogs, one Kardinal make state

volleyball all-tournament teams

Nikiski's Hannah Thompson and Georgie Heaverley were named to the all-tournament team at the 2004 Class 3A Alaska State Volleyball Championship tournament Saturday. Heaverley and Thompson helped lead the Bulldogs to a fourth-place finish over the weekend at state. Nikiski finished the season with just one loss. Heaverley and Thompson were joined by Seward's Lara Loomis as the peninsula's three representatives on the all-tourney team.

Kenai's Jamie Peterson, who helped Kenai to a fifth-place finish in the 4A tournament, was the peninsula's lone player named to the 4A all-tournament squad.

Kenai to host high school basketball camp

Kenai Central High School will host a basketball camp for ninth- through 12th-graders Nov. 16-19 from 3 until 5 p.m. each day at the KCHS gym. Cost for the camp is $25.

SoHi, Skyview grapplers pin losses on Kenai

The Soldotna and Skyview wrestling teams each posted wins over Kenai Central Friday in round-robin action at SoHi. The big winner, however, was Anchorage Christain School, which posted wins over both Soldotna schools.

Soldotna beat Kenai 57-12, while Skyview beat the Kards 69-6 in dual meet action. Against Anchorage Christian the defending 3A state champions Soldotna wasn't as fortunate, dropping a 54-18 decision. The Panthers fared better against the Lions, losing a tight 41-30 match.

Globetrotters to play at KCHS

There will be a team charity basketball game featuring area firefighters,the Harlem Globetrotters and the Harlem Comedy All-Stars at 6 p.m. Nov. 19 at the Kenai Central High School gymnasium.

The proceeds will benefit to help fund the Kenai Firefighters scholarships fund for high school students and for essential new training. Tickets are $15 in advance for one adult or two children under 12. Ticket are available by calling 283-3003 or at the ticket office at the Kenai Merit Inn.

Wallyball league forming

The Kenai Recreation Center is hosting an adult co-ed wallyball league. It will hold a round-robin kick-off tournament on Dec. 4. All fees must be paid no later than Nov. 19 to be accepted into the league. For more information, call 283-3855.
