Soldotna Middle School art students often gain inspiration from artwork created from historical or contemporary artists, styles or techniques. Currently on display outside of the art room are sculptures created by Ms. Eggleston’s eighth-grade sculpture class. These pieces were inspired by the artwork of contemporary American sculptor Deborah Butterfield. Butterfield constructs life-sized horses with driftwood then often creates bronze casts of her work. Students went on walks in the woods to discover a new, yet simple material to work with. Students assembled their found sticks with wire and glue for support. The finished pieces ranged from horses to animals like the unicorn, donkey, deer, dall sheep and giraffe. Please come visit the creative display near the art room.
