Men's conference slated for weekend

The Peninsula Section Men's Advance conference will be held at 8:30 a.m. today and 9 a.m. Saturday with guest speaker Mel Williams at King J. Ranch on Deville Road in Sterling. Williams is the associate pastor of Anchorage Greater Friendly Temple Church of God in Christ and the former director of the Alaska Men's Ministry and Alaska Promise Keepers. There is a $30 registration fee, and scholarships are available. Children's carnival planned

There will be a Tool Time Harvest Carnival for preschool through sixth-grade children from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Aurora Heights Assembly of God. Tickets will be sold at the door. All food and games will cost 25 cents to $1. For more information, call 776-8723.

Churches to host ministries rep

Bruce Elman, representative of Chosen People Ministries, will speak at several Kenai area churches. He will speak at the Kenai Messianic Fellowship, which meets in the basement of Good Books and More in Kenai, Saturday at 10:30 a.m. about "The History of the Messianic Movement"; at North Kenai Baptist Church in Nikiski at 11 a.m. Sunday about sharing his testimony; and at New Life Assembly of God Church in Kenai at 6 p.m. Sunday about "The future of Israel."

Christmas bazaar slated for Saturday

A Christmas bazaar sponsored by the Lutheran Women's Missionary League and AAL Branch No. 7310 will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Star of the North Lutheran Church, 216 N. Forest Drive in Kenai. Handcrafted items and baked goods will be available. All proceeds benefit mission projects locally, nationally and internationally. For more information, call 283-4153.

New 2 U clothing ministry under way

The New 2 U clothing ministry will open from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at 129 Little Ave., behind the First Baptist Church in Soldotna. Items include winter coats, sweaters, men's suits, women's dresses, children's clothes. Ministry organizers are looking for good, clean, used clothing and good, clean toys in good repair. Children's choir to perform musical

The Peninsula Grace Brethren Children's Choir will present "Operation Christmas Child," a Samaritan's Purse musical using the shoe box ministry at 7 p.m. Sunday. The musical will be held at the church, 44175 Kalifornsky Beach Road in Soldotna. Admission is free. Concertgoers are encouraged and welcome to donate a shoe box filled with small gifts to bless a child this Christmas.

Thanksgiving sale to benefit artists

The women of Soldotna United Methodist Church are sponsoring a Ten Thousand Villages sale, including jewelry, toys, musical instruments and holiday decorations Nov. 23 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Nov. 24 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Soldotna United Methodist Church on Binkley. The sale provides fair income to Third World people by marketing their crafts in North America. All proceeds from the sale will return to the program.

The church also is selling Divine chocolate bars. Each bar sold returns a fair price to low-income cocoa farmers in Ghana.

Live drive-through Nativity planned

A free drive-through Nativity with live actors and animals will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Dec. 1 and 2 at the Kenai Grace Brethren Church, Mile 9.2 of the Kenai Spur Highway in Kenai. Viewers are asked to follow traffic control signs: enter on Cinderella, turn right on Magic, follow to McCollum Drive, stop at the intersection and follow the directions of the traffic manager at that point. To facilitate long lines, viewers are encouraged to park their vehicles and walk through.

Christmas choir open to community members

The choir at the United Methodist Church of the New Covenant in Kenai is practicing for its Christmas Eve Cantata. Cherie Brewer will direct "Journey of Promises," by Joseph M. Martin. Members of the community are invited to sing with the choir. Rehearsals are Wednesdays from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and selected Saturdays at the church. For more information, call Kari Mohn at 283-4258.

Volunteers sought for breakfast programs

Love INC is seeking church volunteers to help serve breakfast at Redoubt and Sears elementary schools Monday through Friday from 8:30 to 9 a.m.
