Kasilof resident John Joseph Tri died at his parents' home in Kasilof Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2010, after battling small cell cancer for 14 months. He was 37.
Mr. Tri was born July 19, 1973, at Central Peninsula Hospital, in Soldotna. He attended Tustumena Elementary, Soldotna Middle School, Soldotna High School and Skyview High School where he graduated in 1992.
His family said: "John loved to collect guns and knifes, work on vehicles, snowmachine till his heart was content, cook with his mom, and had a love for the Inlet that went way past being a commercial fisherman -- it was in his blood. Those who know John well can say that he was a protector of the innocent with a heart filled with so much love, mercy and compassion that it will be embedded in them forever with the lives he's spoken into and changed with a either a simple smile, a hug that you just didn't want to stop, or an 'I love you' that was truly meant."
Mr. Tri was preceded in death by his newborn sister, "Baby Girl," in 1971; and grandfathers Wilbur (Bud) A. Tri and Charlie Rochon.
He is survived by his parents, Allan and Annette Tri, and brothers Adam and Josh Tri, all of Kasilof; grandmother Violet Rochon, of Kasilof; grandparents Dorothy and Don Sieplemeyer, of Red Wing, Minn.; niece Caitlyn Tri, of Kenai; along with many family members from Alaska, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Washington; and friends.
A memorial account has been established to help for all expenses incurred during his illness; Wells Fargo account number 8506309593.
