Man dies in Fairbanks shooting

FAIRBANKS (AP) -- A Fairbanks man is dead after shooting himself in the head while playing Russian roulette Friday, according to Fairbanks police.
Daniel J. Atwood, 26, died at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital at 4:25 a.m., almost three hours after police responded to a report that a man had shot himself.
Sgt. Jim Geier said Atwood was playing Russian roulette when he shot himself with a .38-caliber revolver. The gun belonged to a friend whom Atwood was visiting and who witnessed the shooting.
Atwood was alive when police and medics arrived on scene at around 1:30 a.m.
The shooting has been ruled accidental.
