Ice jam blamed for minor flooding at Big Eddy

Posted: Friday, November 17, 2006

The National Weather Service office in Anchorage issued a small stream flood advisory along the Kenai River in the Big Eddy area between Soldotna and Kenai on Thursday afternoon.

Minor flooding was reported due to minor ice jamming caused by the unusually cold conditions.

Central Emergency Services, Alaska State Troopers in Soldotna and Soldotna Police had not received any reports of flooding or any requests for assistance as of 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

The weather service advisory said some residents along Riverside Lane reported three to six inches of water in yards and low-lying areas.

The advisory also said water behind the ice jam might slowly move up-stream over the next few days.
