Your own meat cut the way you like it at AK Custom Meats

Many successful hunters this fall have become acquainted with Avery Hansen at the all new AK Custom Meats next to Soldotna Trustworthy Hardware on the Sterling Highway. That's because Avery is not only a very successful hunter himself, but also a second generation meat cutter and processor. "I grew up in Washington state, where my father had a meat processing house. We did things liked smoked turkeys, prime rib, and sausages. I moved to Alaska and was a fishing guide for eleven years. Then I got tired of that, and decided to go back to what I know how to do. I decided to open AK Custom Meats in Soldotna to meet the needs I saw here for another wild game processing house and specialty meat shop," Hansen told the Dispatch.

With the Holidays coming, Avery and his two year old daughter, Kellyn, are excited to be able to offer their family-recipe hickory smoked turkey and prime rib for the season. "People who love a good prime rib for the holidays often struggle and stress over finishing out a prime rib, or smoking a turkey, so we do all that work for them. Here all you do is just take it home and heat it up, and you are ready with a real feast for the holidays. Its guaranteed delicious, perfect for Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Years parties, and of course our family specialty is our hickory smoked turkey," explained Hansen.

In addition to processing wild game at AK Custom Meats, Avery says he can cut your own home grown or purchased domestic meats such as buffalo, elk, pork, or beef. It can be processed cut and wrapped, or made into specialty sausages to your personal specifications. AK Custom Meats also offers a selection of over-the-counter fresh quality meats that are cut to order, such as ribeye, T-bones, and porterhouse steaks, hickory smoked bacon and hams, German style frankfurters, jalepeno cheddar cheese dogs, and smoked pepper sticks and jerky. "We also make our own jalepeno cheddar cheese spread that's a little different, but becoming very popular," said Hansen. Stop in and meet Avery and his family at AK Custom Meats Tuesday through Saturday 10:00am - 5:00pm, Friday 10:00am - 6:00pm and Saturday 11:00am - 4:00pm, or call 260-9292 for more information.
