Shayne Pond, an emergency room nurse at Central Peninsula Hospital, received a top award at the Governor's Emergency Medical Services awards last week. Pond was given the Melissa Ann Peters Memorial Award in recognition of his dedication and contributions to Central Peninsula Hospital and its emergency care efforts, his community, his patients and for promoting positive change and providing the highest standard of patient care. The Melissa Ann Peters Memorial Award is given in memory of a young nurse whose death prompted her family and friends to remember her by honoring other nurses who have contributed in a special way to the encouragement of emergency medical skills, efforts and education.
