Mr. Zinck's third-grade students studied the little brown bats that inhabit the school. They wrote a non-fiction book about the flying mammals for their final manuscript handwriting lesson and constructed a flight of those critters, which are hanging from the ceiling in room nine. They also studied skeletons to help them in their upcoming dissection of owl pellets.
Mr. Anderson's class has been working on fire safety with the Nikiski Fire Department. Students have had training with stop, drop and roll and calling the 911 emergency number. Firefighter Carl also visited the room to demonstrate home fire hazard identification. The students brainstormed fire safety rules and made posters to illustrate the rules.
Debbie Harris, art specialist, is working with students in kindergarten through sixth grade exploring various art techniques.
Mrs. Zimmerman and Mrs. Barnes' fourth- and fifth-graders are having their fourth annual pictures with Santa fund-raiser at the Kenai Safeway from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 6, 12, 20 and 21. All proceeds will pay for spring field trips.
Mrs. Zimmerman and Mrs. Pilatti's reading group entertained guests at the Title I Taco Tuesday Night. They performed humorous Readers Theater selections titled "Little Abigail and the Beautiful Pony," "Talk" and "Harriet."
Mrs. Pilatti's second- and third-grade group of readers is studying the story "Music, Music for Everyone" by Vera B. Williams.
Mrs. Barnes fourth-graders will begin selling pizza kits soon as a fund-raiser for their spring field trip.
