Patricia Jean Downing
Nikiski resident Patricia Jean Downing died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2006, at her home. She was 69.
A prayer service will be held for her local family. A memorial service will be held for her at a later date at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Portland, Ore.
Mrs. Downing was born June 13, 1937, in Bemidji, Minn. She moved to Portland and graduated from high school there. She worked for Mier and Frank most of her adult life until she retired in 1999, after 32 years of service.
She was a member of St. Michael’s Lutheran Church and also attended Star of the North Lutheran Church in Kenai.
She was involved in church to raise money for the needy, quilting and toys for children. She also enjoyed working in her yard.
“My mother was the strongest person I’ve ever known. She was very loving and generous with many friends. She had a quirky personality and a big laugh. We will miss her always,” her daughter said.
Mrs. Downing is preceded in death by her father, John Swofford; and sister, Shirley Irene Lewis.
She is survived by her mother and stepfather, Hazel and Lyle Ehlers of Portland; sister and brother-in-law, Judith and Les Braunbeck of Vancouver, Wash.; daughter, Doni Jean Gragert of Nikiski; granddaughters, Brandi Trent of Sterling and Heather Dukowitz and her husband, Rodney, of Nikiski; and seven great-grandchildren.
Arrangements were made by Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai.
