Gym helps upgrade Kenai weight room

I coach and teach PE at KCHS. Since the building was orginally opened back in the 1960s the weight room as been an enormous part of the success that Kenai has had on the court, mat, and most recently on the field. Many of you reading this have probably spent some time in, or at least have seen the weight room. Nothing fancy at all, just a few pieces of equipment and a lot of metal. The economy being as it is, finding money for new equipment has been challenging to say the least, business big and small cannot afford to give as they have in the past. The folks over at Peninsula Athletic Club are in that same boat I am sure. Despite the economy, cash value, and just plain trouble, they have donated an amazing amount of equipment to us and have single-handedly made the biggest improvment to our weight room in at least 20 years. From all of us here at KCHS, staff and students, thank you so much.

Media outfits help food bank campaign

A big thank you to local media designers who have generously shared their talents to assist in launching the Building to Nourish capital campaign for the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank. We are grateful to Samantha and Joe Halstead of Digits Computing who have developed and maintain the Food Bank's Web site. Our donor pyramid was created by David Booth of Cabin Fever Artworks. Heidi Bohi and Marie Conover of Bounce Creative designed both of our informational brochures. We're indebted to Printer's Ink for brochure printing and to the Peninsula Clarion for advertising.

In 2009 the new client base of the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank has increased over 40 percent. As each day passes the Building to Nourish campaign to upgrade food storage and distribution capabilities becomes more urgent. Check out our new Web site at www.kpfoodbank.org/btn to learn about building plans that will make it possible to feed more hungry people on the Kenai Peninsula. We are indeed thankful for you who are helping us!
