Georg-Anne Phillips received the Best of Show award for "She's Come Undone" in the 2009 Kenai Peninsula Watercolor Juried Exhibition which opened Nov. 5. The presentation of awards came during the First Thursday artists' reception at the Kenai Fine Arts Center in Old Town Kenai. Artists from all over the Kenai Peninsula working in water media entered the annual exhibition.
Other awards were: first place, Melinda Hershberger for "Trilogy"; second place, Melinda Hershberger for "Pink Pirouette"; third place, Michael E. Murray for "AK456"; and honorable mentions for Donna Martin for "Moroccan Woman" and Donna Schwanke for "Vintage." Juried exhibitors were Shana Butler, "Untitled"; Laura Faeo, "Butterfly Dreams"; Melinda Hershberger, "Sherrie's Bouquet"; Juanita Hillhouse "Three Lemons","Poppies" and "Love Basil"; Kathryn Joyce, "A Creative Crop"; Marlyn Kramer, "Pretty in Pink", "Red Tulips" and "Bath Time"; Gaye LaRane "Night Flame", "Evening at Dock Mall" and "Closing Performance"; Donna Martin, "Alaska Night 4"; Pam Mersch "Blue Bicycle", "My Feet" and "Untitled"; Michael E. Murray "Chicken Penny Tentiary" and "Woman in Straw Hat"; June Peck "Jeannie Johnston", "Green Apples" and "Return to Duty"; Georg-Anne Phillips "Her Gift" and "Phone Home"; Donna Schwanke "Birch Trees" and "Cancun"; and Holly Tuttle "Fall, Fireweed" This year's juried exhibition was juried by two local artists. Chelline Larsen is a lifelong Soldotna resident and artist who has worked in many mediums over the years including drawing, watercolors, acrylics and silk painting. She owns and operates the Dragonfly Gallery in Soldotna. Brian Erwin has a strong background in art materials and methods, drawing and perspective drawing, two-dimensional design and art history. He has been manager of Frames and Things for more than nine years. The exhibition runs through Nov. 30 at the Kenai Fine Arts Center, 816 Cook Street in Kenai.
