Rivalries notwithstanding, goodwill carried the day

Over the weekend of Nov. 4. the Region III volleyball tournament was held at Kenai Central High School. Participating schools were: Homer, Kenai, SoHi, Skyview, Palmer, Wasilla, Colony and Kodiak.

In an area home to some extremely competitive local rivalries, it was great to see these same teams, parents and fans supporting each other throughout the tournament. It was a wonderful example of sportsmanship, support, spirit and camaraderie, and it was a pleasure to be a part of it.

Many helped make KCHS banquet a success

On Nov. 7, Kenai Central High School held its sixth academic banquet to honor students who earned a 3.5 or better grade point average during the spring semester.

The Kenai jazz band provided excellent entertainment and Judge Dave Landry supplied the audience with thoughts for success.

Thanks goes to McDonald's of Kenai for financial support and for giving each student a McFlurry coupon. K-Mart's Goodwill Committee generously donated paper products.

I also would like to thank all who participated in helping make the banquet a success: Jim Davis, Christine Bergholtz, Mark Manuel, Debbie Allen, Lynn Janson, Tina Herford, Pam Lazenby, Sam Stewart, Tim Delaney, Debbie Sounart, Susie Franklin, Liana Bigham and the National Honor Society.

The next academic awards banquet will be held in the spring.
