KODIAK (AP) -- The crew of a fishing vessel successfully fought an engine fire that broke out Monday near Kodiak Island in the Gulf of Alaska, the Coast Guard said.

The three-person crew of the 92-foot fishing vessel Provision discovered the fire at about 6 a.m. while underway 23 miles east of Cape Chiniak. The crew used an onboard firefighting system to put out the blaze.

The Coast Guard was notified at 6:14 a.m. A fishing vessel that was near the Provision towed the boat to Kodiak.

The Coast Guard's Marine Safety Detachment is investigating.
