Doughnut fund-raiser scheduled

The Kenai Crewsers rowing club will sell Krispy Kreme doughnuts to raise money for equipment at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Kaladi Brothers Coffee Co. and the Peninsula Center Mall in Soldotna. Sales will continue as long as supplies last. For more information, call 283-4525 or 262-6037.

Rock-a-billy fund-raiser planned

A 1950s era rock-a-billy revival show featuring Joey Fender and the 55s will begin at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Renee C. Henderson Auditorium at Kenai Central High School. A second show will be held immediately following the first performance if more people show up than there are allotted seats.

Proceeds will benefit the purchase order program for travel allotments for area veterans using the Central Area Rural Transit System (CARTS). For more information, call Chuck at 283-2270.

Candy fund-raiser begins

Soroptimist International of the Kenai Peninsula is taking orders for See's Candy. The deadline to place orders is Dec. 2. All proceeds will benefit the Soroptimist programs. For more information, call Lyn Hodel at 262-9253.

Community Thanksgiving dinner set

The Salvation Army will hold a community Thanksgiving dinner from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at its community center building at the corner of Second and Forest Drive in Kenai. Food donations are still needed. For more information, to volunteer or to make a donation, call 283-4035 or 283-3879.

Soldotna Elks table tennis results

Bob Sizemore and Joe Szczesny won the Soldotna Elks Lodge's doubles table tennis tournament Wednesday. Dan Mortenson and Gary Brumley placed second, and Skip Dove and Matt Farris placed third.

The Soldotna Elks hold table tennis tournaments every Wednesday beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Library plans December events

The Kenai Library Commission will meet at 7 p.m. Dec. 7.

The library will be closed Dec. 24 through 26 and Dec. 31 for the Christmas holiday and New Year's.

Events planned at the library include:

Toddler story time is at 11 a.m. Wednesdays.

Preschool story time is at 10:30 a.m. Thursdays.

The Totem Tracers Genealogy Society will be at the library at 1 p.m. Dec. 11 for Resource Saturday, when members will be available to help the public with family history research. Totem Tracers members will meet at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 14.

A beginning Internet class will be offered from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Dec. 13 in the library conference room. The class will cover basic Internet skills and searching techniques.

The Writers' Group will meet at 6 p.m. Dec. 16 in the library conference room. Anyone who enjoys writing for profit or pleasure is invited to attend.

Friends of the Library board will meet at 5:45 p.m. Dec. 20 at Paradisos Restaurant.

The Book Club will meet at 7 p.m. Dec. 28 at Paradisos.

Islands and Oceans

The following activities will take place at the Alaska Islands and Ocean Visitor Center in Homer. The operating hours are from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

Dock Studies Life in the Harbor, The Kachemak Bay Research Reserve's bimonthly discovery lab continues on the first and third Thursdays of each month through March. Participants can learn about the animals and plants that make their home among the pilings and floating docks in Homer's Small Boat Harbor.

Festive holiday and one-year-anniversary celebration from 3 to 7 p.m. Dec. 16. The Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge and Kachemak Bay Research Reserve invite
