Houston sweeps Nikiski in high school hockey

Houston used a hat trick by Devin Styers to beat the Nikiski Bulldogs 7-2 Friday night in Greatland Conference play at the Brett Memorial Arena in Wasilla.

The Hawks jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first period, scoring twice on the power play. Nikiski battled back in the second, cutting the lead to 4-2 behind goals from Louie Oliva and Brett Allemann, but were unable to draw any closer.

The Bulldogs got 44 saves from senior goalie Luke Hardesty in the losing effort.

Larry Kincaid had two goals and three assists, and Kaleb Westfall had a hat trick as the Houston Hawks rolled to a 10-0 romp over the Bulldogs on Saturday. Five different Houston players scored for the Hawks, as Houston ran its record to 4-1 on the season, including a 2-0 record in Greatland Conference play. Nikiski fell to 1-5 (0-2 in the GLC).

Homer 4, Monroe Catholic 1

After Monroe Catholic got on the board with the lone goal of the first period, Homer rattled off four unanswered scores to pick up a Greatland Conference victory Friday in Fairbanks.

The Mariners tallied three second period goals, led by junior Adam Trieweiller, who tied the game early in the period by putting a Matt Satre pass past Monroe goalie Matt Gavin.

The Mariners then got scores from Terry Shroyer and Taber Webb to take control of the contest. Scott Owens finished off the scoring with an unassisted goal in the third period.

Justin Adams and Nate Miller each had one assist for Homer, which outshot Monroe 20-10. Homer goalie Ben Miller had nine saves in the win.
