Boy Scouts District Committee meets

The Great Alaska Council, Boy Scouts of America Tustumena District will be holding its District Committee meeting on Dec. 2, 6 p.m., at the Cook Inlet Aquaculture Association. All District Committee members and commissioners need to attend. Directly following will be our District Round Table from 7 to 8 p.m. Youth Protection training will start from 8 to 8:30 p.m. All registered adults must take this training, and this will be the last group session for the year. St. Nick goes to college

Santa Claus is coming to Kenai Peninsula College Saturday, Dec. 11, from 2 to 4 p.m. He'll greet families in the main commons, by the bookstore. Free cocoa and coffee provided. Parents should bring their own cameras. For more information, call the Student Union at 262-0339.

High schoolers offer free day care

The Soldotna High School Child Development course is looking for children ages 2-5 for their free day care. The dates are Thursday, Dec. 9, and Friday, Dec. 10, from 12:15 to 2:15 p.m. Snacks, games, and activities will be included. Children must be potty trained. Join the parade

Showcase your business or organization by entering the Christmas Comes to Kenai Electric Lights Parade, "Just Believe," on Friday, Nov. 26. Parade line up begins at 5 p.m. Judging takes place at 5:45 p.m. Parade begins at 6:00 p.m. Parade route: Frontage Road beginning at Spur View Drive, down to Main Street and Peninsula Way. Nikiski Rec takes holiday off

Nikiski Pool and Nikiski Community Recreation Center will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 25, and Friday, Nov. 26, for the Thanksgiving Day Holiday. For more information please call 776-8800.

Public health center to close for holiday

The Kenai Public Health Center will be closed Thursday, Nov. 25, in observance of Thanksgiving Day. The center will reopen Friday at 8 a.m. Call 335-3400 for more information.

Come see the tree lighting

The Soldotna Chamber presents the 10th Annual Christmas Tree Lighting, Wednesday Dec. 1, from 5 to 7 p.m., at the Soldotna CES. Come join us for cookies, hot cocoa and hay rides. Bring your camera and take pictures with Santa. For more information call the Chamber, 262-9814.

Women's cancer support group meets

A Women's Cancer Support Group meets on the last Monday of each month at Soldotna Bible Chapel, 300 W. Marydale, in Soldotna, at 11:30 a.m. The next meeting is Monday, Nov. 29. For information call 953-9343 or 262-6332.

Brewers meet monthly

The Kenai Peninsula Brewing and Tasting Society will be meeting monthly, on the first Wednesday of each month. We welcome homebrewers and beer lovers from the area to join us in experiencing good craft beer. Our next meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 1, at Kenai River Brewing Company, 241 N. Aspen Dr., Suite #100, Soldotna. We will be adopting by-laws and electing officers at the December meeting. More info is available on our Facebook page. Legion Auxillary hosts home retail bazaar

The American Legion Auxillary Unit 20 will host a home retail bazaar at the legion hall, 902 Cook Ave, in Kenai, on Friday, Nov. 26 and Saturday, Nov. 27, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Vendors who sell make-up, jewelry, purses, homemmade items and other good are invited to participate. The cost is $20 per day per table. To reserve a table, call Sue Diaz at 283-3222. Proceeds will benefit the community's youth.

Marathon serving turkey

Marathon Oil Co. is hosting a traditional Thanksgiving Dinner at Kenai Senior Center, Tuesday, Nov. 23, at noon. All area seniors (55 years and older) are invited. Sign up to reserve your seat by calling 283-4156. What a generous way to bring in the holiday season!

LEGO tournamant at Challenger Center

The 2010 Kenai Peninsula FIRST LEGO League Tournament is Saturday, Dec. 4, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Challenger Learning Center, 9711 Kenai Spur Highway. These tournaments introduce students to real-world engineering challenges by building LEGO-based robots to complete tasks. Register or learn more at fllalaska.com/flltournaments. Teen moms support group meets

Teen MOPS, open to all pregnant teens and teen moms, meets Tuesday, Nov. 23, from 5 to 7 p.m., at College Heights Baptist Church, 44440 Kalifornsky Beach Road, Soldotna. Teen MOPS is a place to join others going through the same things to encourage and support one another and have some fun! Free dinner and childcare is provided, as well as prizes and other give-aways. Transportation is also available. This week we will be making gifts and talking about the holidays. Toys for Tots drive under way

The 2010 Toys for Tots on the Kenai Peninsula campaign is here.
