Light parade, Christmas celebration Friday

Activities for the Kenai Chamber of Commerce Christmas Comes to Kenai family celebration on Friday will take place as follows: 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Santa will visit the Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center; 6 p.m. is the Electric Light Parade, followed by the lighting of the Christmas tree by the chamber cabin, Victorian carolers and a bonfire sing-along; and at 8 p.m., a fireworks display will be held at the ballpark on the greenstrip.

CPGH to offer childbirth classes

The Central Peninsula General Hospital will offer childbirth classes from 6 to 10 p.m. Dec. 3 and from 2 to 6 p.m. Dec. 4. The cost is $75, and prepayment is required.

Mission fund-raiser planned

Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church will hold a "cookies buy the pound" fund-raiser beginning at 10 a.m. Dec. 4 in Kenai. There will be a selection of homemade speciality cookies and pastries. All proceeds will go to its youth mission program. For more information, call 776-8328.

Soroptimist offer volunteer award

Soroptimist International of the Kenai Peninsula is sponsoring the Violet Richardson Awards Program.

The award recognizes women from the ages of 14 to 17 who make the community and world a better place through volunteer efforts.

The winner on the local level and the organization that she volunteers at each will receive a $200 cash award. The club-level winner becomes eligible for state and national awards. Applications are available at the Kenai and Soldotna public libraries, the Boys and Girls Club and area high schools.

The application deadline is Wednesday.

Women's outdoor workshop slated

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game will host a "Becoming an Outdoors Woman" workshop Feb. 11 through 13 at the Solid Rock Bible Camp.

The program is designed to help introduce people to the outdoors. The workshop fee is $200 before Jan. 10 and $225 after Jan. 10.
