School dismisses at 3:30 p.m. today and resumes again Monday.

In Christ Light this week the children learned how Jesus showed his power over death by raising the daughter of Jairus and the young man of Nain from the dead.

Marine Corps Pvt. Matt Habermann, older brother of fourth-grader Scott Habermann, recently visited and shared with students some of his experiences at Marine boot camp and what it means to be a Marine. He discussed his various uniforms, daily routine and tests of physical fitness. Scott and family traveled to Mexico and then to San Diego to attend Matt's graduation. Scott had a collection of postcards from his travels to share with the class.

As a culminating activity on the first- through third-graders' study of Japan, Judy Meinhardt, the grandmother of third-grader Jeffrey Peterson, shared with the class many of the items she collected while she and her husband lived on the island of Honshu. She brought kimonos, a Japanese flag, a baby doll and a porcelain sake set.

The annual Christmas for Kids will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Dec. 11. Children ages 3 through sixth-grade are invited for a morning of Bible study, crafts, singing and games. Lunch will be provided. For more information or to register, call 283-6297 or 283-9551.
