FAIRBANKS (AP) -- A former student at the University of Alaska Fairbanks has admitted sexually assaulting a drunken 26-year-old student back in March as part of a plea agreement.
Joseph Heard, 20, was originally charged with two counts of sexual assault. Prosecutors said he assaulted the woman in his dormitory room when she was too drunk to make a rational decision, then assaulted her again after she passed out.
On Wednesday, Heard agreed to plead to one of the charges, with the other being dismissed. As part of the plea deal, he faces a maximum of four years in prison.
UAF police investigated the incident after the woman was found passed out in a dorm elevator at about 11 a.m. on March 4.
Heard's sentencing is scheduled for Feb. 27.
